Borneo's Annual Climate
March to May and September to November are excellent times to visit Borneo, offering pleasant weather and vibrant natural scenery. In these months, the weather is generally dry and mild, ideal for exploring the rainforests and witnessing diverse wildlife, including the island’s renowned orangutans, proboscis monkeys, and hornbills.
From June to August, Borneo experiences its hottest and most humid weather, with increased rainfall in some areas, particularly in the lowland rainforests. However, this season also brings the lush greenery of the rainforests to life, attracting nature enthusiasts and providing excellent conditions for jungle trekking and river cruises.
December to February is typically wetter due to the Northeast Monsoon, particularly on the eastern coast, but it is also an ideal time for those interested in marine activities. The increased rainfall enhances water clarity around islands such as Sipadan, creating fantastic conditions for divers and snorkellers who can enjoy abundant marine life.
When planning a visit, it’s also worth noting Borneo’s key holiday periods. Hari Raya Aidilfitri, the end of Ramadan, and Chinese New Year are widely celebrated, and many residents travel, making it a busy time for local tourism.
