Fugitives Drift

Luxury Hotel

Set in a 5000- acre game reserve, which is a registered Natural Heritage Site, is Fugitives Drift. The property overlooks both Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift, famous battle sites of the Zulu War of 1874 and includes the site where Lieutenants Melvill & Coghill lost their loves attempting to save the Queen’s colour of their regiment.

The legacy of the founder, David Rattray, lives on through his sons and the finest Heritage Tourist guides in South Africa. Detailing the famous battles of Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift these thought-provoking and emotionally charged accounts of the battlefields reduce many a visitor to tears.

Both the lodge and the guest house reflect the Rattray’s love of South Africa, its people and its unique history. An extensive collection of Zulu War memorabilia is housed at the Lodge and the Harford Library complements this. Mountain bike trails, walks through the reserve and fishing are all offered from the Lodge or Guest House.
