Day 1 : Chiang Rai Embarkation
You will be met from your hotel and join fellow guests on a tour of the city, visit the Golden Buddha of Sop Ruak and the Hall of Opium. Time to board the Mekong Sun, a unique boutique river vessel. Day 2 : Huay Xay
This morning your grand voyage on the mighty Mekong River really gets underway, with your departure from the Golden Triangle region, where Myanmar (Burma), Laos and Thailand meet. Today’s destination is the nearby Laotian town of Huay Xay on the Laotian-Thai border. Continue into northern Laos amid stunning scenery and on to the village of Pak Tha. Here, take a long-tail boat excursion on the Namtha River to visit a local village of the ethnic minority Khmu.
Day 3 : Pak Tha
After breakfast, set off on a journey to visit one of the local hill tribe villages in the Pak Tha area. Return to your vessel and enjoy the peaceful river atmosphere before lunch. Cruise through remote and untouched regions of Laos, accessible only by water. Here, the Mekong unveils some of its most stunning landscapes: lush hills draped in tropical vegetation and dramatic rock formations.
Day 4 : Pak Ou Caves – Ban Muang Keo
Enjoy a peaceful morning before arriving at a charming riverside village. Explore the legendary Pak Ou Caves, home to thousands of small Buddha statues. Embark on a jungle trek leading to the local village of Ban Muang Keo, or for a more relaxed pace, a short boat ride will also take you to the village. As the day draws to a close, your ship remains anchored, surrounded by majestic limestone mountains.
Day 5 : Luang Prabang
Arrive in Luang Prabang, the former royal capital of Laos. Begin with a guided walk through the city, taking you to the famous Wat Xieng Thong Temple. As evening approaches, you’ll ascend Mount Phou Si, where you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views. Take a stroll along the Mekong promenade or immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of the colourful Hmong Night Market. Back on board, a special farewell dinner awaits, celebrating the final night of your cruise.
Day 6 : Disembark Luang Prabang
In the early morning, visit the traditional giving of alms in the streets of Luang Prabang and explore the traditional morning market. After breakfast you will say goodbye to your Laotian crew. Checkout and disembark. Your memorable river journey ends with your transfer to your city centre hotel.
