Tokyo & Kanto Region

The Kantō region is where tradition meets innovation.   Here you will find the ultra-modern city of Tokyo, the vibrant waterfront city of Yokohama and also many traditional sights such as Nikko Tosho-gu Shrine, A UNESCO World Heritage Site and Kamakura, a coastal town with ancient temples, serene beaches, and the iconic Great Buddha statue.

Where to go in Kanto

Gunma

Located in the north of the Kanto region and famous for popular hot springs in its northern part. Strolling to the tasteful hot spring town of Ikaho is relaxing. Kusatsu, Manza and Minakami are popular snow resorts in Winter as well as other hot spring towns.

Tochigi

About 2-3 hours away from Tokyo, Tochigi has a stunning World Heritage shrine known as Nikko Toshogu which enshrines a Shogun called Ieyasu Tokugawa. Red and yellow leaves cover mountains in Autumn and the Iroha zaka winding road is a perfect choice for enjoying the beautiful, natural scenery.

Ibaraki

Facing the Pacific Ocean in the north of this region, Ibaraki has an abundance of stunning natural scenery. Mito Plum Festival is held in early March in one of the three greatest Japanese gardens called Kairakuen. The garden is filled with the gentle and sweet aroma from the plum flowers.

Saitama

Tokyo’s next-door neighbour, Saitama is a commuter town to Tokyo although Kawagoe city has a different face. “Little Edo” Kawagoe is in the spotlight over its historical warehouse district. Try old fashioned Japanese sweets and sweet potato products in the Kashiya Yokocho (Confectionary alley).

 

Tokyo

You will never get bored with the capital of Japan. Skyscrapers in Shinjuku, Shibuya Crossing, fashionable streets in Harajuku and Shibuya offer dynamism of this vibrant capital city’. Old town Asakusa is everyone’s favourite to experience the nostalgia of Tokyo. Stunning night view of the Rainbow bridge in the Tokyo Bay cannot be missed.

Chilba

Another prefecture next door of Tokyo has Narita airport, which has been the main gate way to Japan for many years. Tokyo Disney Resort is in this prefecture and just 20 minutes away from Tokyo station. Tokyo Disneyland Electrical ,Parade Dreamlights, is a gem worth catching in the evening in this park.

Kanagawa

The prefecture borders with Tokyo to the north and has the 2nd largest city in Japan, Yokohama. 30 minutes away from Tokyo by local trains, this place offers a different atmosphere due to the past in which the city was influenced by oversea visitors. Hakone is the closest place from Tokyo where visitors can enjoy hot springs and volcanic features.
