Vancouver: Immersed in Nature

Vancouver: Immersed in Nature

Vancouver is consistently voted one of the most liveable cities in the world, and it’s easy to see why. The variety of shopping spots, from Robson Street to the boutiques of Gastown and Yaletown; the natural charm of 1000-acre Stanley Park or the surrounding peaks of the Coastal Mountains; the artist’s scene, from the funky hotspot of Granville Island to the selection of museums… Vancouver is guaranteed to have something for you.

Stanley Park

On the northwestern edge of downtown Vancouver lies Stanley Park, one of the city's main tourist destinations. The 1000-acre park features everything from lovely beaches to miles of paved and dirt trails, perfect for hiking. It’s also home to Canada's largest aquarium and an array of family-friendly spots such as a pool, water park, miniature railway and much more. It is one of the greatest urban parks in the world.

Its ever-blooming gardens, pristine coastal areas and roughly 500,000 cedar, fir and hemlock trees make this tranquil oasis the perfect city escape.

Grouse Mountain

Grouse Mountain Gondola

Just 15 minutes from the city’s downtown core is the vast alpine playground of Grouse Mountain.  Rising 4,000 above the city of Vancouver, visitors and locals alike can see the jaw-dropping scenery and majestic nature of B.C. by taking an 8-minute ride on the iconic Red Skyride. Grouse Mountain is a true year-round destination and features a wildlife refuge, a vast selection of dining options, thrilling outdoor adventure, summer activities galore, the best in local snow sports…and much more. One thing is for certain: there is no place quite like the Peak of Vancouver.

Capilano Suspension Bridge Park

A 15-minute drive from downtown Vancouver, the iconic Capilano Suspension Bridge is a Vancouver landmark. Since 1889, visitors and locals alike have flocked to this famous swinging bridge across Capilano Canyon, making it one of Canada's most popular attractions. The reason is simple - there are so many things to see and do. Committed to preserving and presenting its history, culture and nature in unique and thrilling ways, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park is Canadian in nature and universal in appeal.

  • Suspension Bridge - The Capilano Suspension Bridge stretches 450 feet across and 230 feet above the Capilano River. Originally the bridge was the only attraction, but over the years, the area has been developed to include a number of other features for visitors to enjoy within the 11-hectare (27 acres) park.
  • Cliffwalk - The newest addition to the park, Cliffwalk follows a granite precipice along Capilano River with a labyrinth-like series of narrow cantilevered bridges, stairs and platforms. With only 16 anchor points in the granite cliff supporting the structure, Cliffwalk is both environmentally sensitive and adrenaline-pumping!
  • Treetops Adventure - Putting you over 100 feet into the tree canopy, Treetops Adventure offers a squirrel's eye view of the thriving coastal rainforest in the mid-story of 1,300-year-old Douglas fir trees.

Gastown

Gastown Vancouver

Vancouver’s oldest neighbourhood, Gastown grew from a single tavern founded by John ‘Gassy Jack’ Deighton back in 1867. Today, the district retains its historic charm and independent spirit. Victorian architecture houses a thriving fashion scene, impeccably curated décor boutiques, one-of-a-kind galleries and some of the best culinary fare in Vancouver. It’s a gathering place for stylish locals and an ideal neighbourhood to explore on foot.

Get a bird’s eye view of the area from the Vancouver Lookout, which rises 167-metres (548 feet) to give visitors a 360˚ panorama of the city.

Granville Island

Granville island market

In the early 1900s, Granville Island was home to factories, plants and sawmills. Things are a little different today—Granville Island is both a locals’ favourite and a huge draw for visitors. The Granville Island Public Market is a hub of activity, but it’s also one of the city’s most important cultural districts with theatres, artisan workshops and craft studios too.

One of the best ways to get to Granville Island is one of the adorable mini-tugboat ferries that criss-cross False Creek – they’re favourites among young and old! Once you’re there, the biggest attraction on Granville Island is the Public Market. Housed indoors, there are endless rows of stalls that feature fresh produce, gourmet foods, baked goods, and seafood.

All in all, Vancouver’s appeal is undeniable. Visit, and you will fall in love with the friendly atmosphere, endless opportunities for adventure, award-winning food and drink and much more. Prepare to find your new favourite city- you may never want to leave.
