Prince Edward Island has welcomed visitors of all ages for many years, creating authentic Island experiences for everyone to enjoy. The impressive coastline offers some of the most stunning vistas in the world.
Further inland, rolling green hills and scenic farmland will keep your cameras busy. The tremendous local cuisine, including some of the freshest seafood available anywhere in the world, will make your mouth water for more. And if golf’s your game, Prince Edward Island has courses to suit all skill levels and budgets including several courses considered among the best in Canada.
Prince Edward Island’s irregular shape and many bays and inlets allow for communities with unique flavour, and secret treasures tucked away quietly awaiting discovery. We’ve separated Prince Edward Island into its five touring regions, to make it easier for you to see what the island has on offer to make your trip a truly memorable one.
North Cape Coastal Drive
This region is brimming with Mi’kmaq culture, Acadian music and theatre, and museums devoted to potatoes, silver foxes, and shipbuilding. You’ll find the Wind Energy Interpretive Centre, the College of Piping, and houses made of glass bottles. You can even sleep in a lighthouse!
Green Gables Shore
Millions of readers from all over the world have visited Green Gables Shore due to Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery’s famous book, Anne of Green Gables. The region is a spectacular piece of the Island’s acclaimed scenic landscape, composed of red sandstone cliffs, white sand beaches and rolling farm fields. Some of the classic coastline has been protected in Prince Edward Island National Park, which hugs the north shore in this area. Cavendish Grove is a lovely recent addition to the Park, featuring walking trails, picnic grounds and a stand of sugar maples.
Red Sands Shore
There is a warmth that envelopes you here, and it’s embodied by the colour red: the red sand beaches that await your footprints and castles, the red jutting cliffs that will both impress and humble you and the red clay roads that disappear over hills and beckon you to follow. These are Mother Nature’s imprints on Red Sands Shore.
Charlottetown
Canada was born (or perhaps more accurately, was conceived) here when the Fathers of Confederation met at Province House National Historic Site in 1864 to plot out the creation of Canada. Charlottetown’s beauty is that, even in the heart of the city, you’re never far away from a round of golf or a day at the beach. The 18-hole Fox Meadow Golf and Country Club is just seven minutes away, in Stratford. Keep driving a little further and you’ll discover the red sands of Tea Hill Beach, a great place for shell collecting and a dip in the warm water.
Points East Coastal Drive
Don’t miss the rare dune system at Greenwich or the bayside community of St. Peters. This is the land of breath-taking beaches, lively ceilidhs and lighthouses. Watch for eagles and seals or head to scenic Montague, visit the winery at Little Sands or Orwell Corner Historic Village.
