When did you go? How long did you stay in Japan? What was your itinerary – Which places did you visit?
Travelled to Japan in September/October 2019 spending approx. 8 weeks travelling. We started in Tokyo and travelled to Yokohama, Kamakura, Nagoya, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Okinawa.
Is there an iconic (or more) moment/experience during your trip you would like to share?
All of it. Swimming with turtles on the islands off Okinawa, watching deer bow to you in Nara, Sumo Wrestling in Tokyo, Children’s choir singing in unison at the children’s memorial statue in Hiroshima. Each town or city we stopped in had something special that made our holiday remarkable and memorable.
What were the things you like the most from Japan?
The people, culture and food. Everyone is so friendly and helpful. Kobe Beef is a must! Worth every Yen.
What tips would you give to someone who is visiting Japan for the first time?
Take cash. Japan is ahead of the times with many things but credit/debit cards is rare. They have ATMs everywhere but always make sure you have enough cash as some places will not accept cards.
Why would you recommend Japan?
Japan has something for everyone. Whether you are looking for beach or ski, city or nature they have it all. Japan is so well connected and easy to get around. Most places have English translations or pictures to help tourists and there will always be a friendly face to help if you get lost.
What kind of traveller would enjoy Japan (families, young/old couples), group of friends, honeymooners… all of them?
Japan is so diverse and with so much happening anyone would find something suited for them. From the Atomic Bomb Zone to Tokyo Disneyland there isn’t much you can’t do or see here.
