1. The CN Tower
The CN Tower is one of the most iconic structures in Canada – it’s hard to miss! Standing tall amongst the Toronto skyline, the 553-meter tall tower can be seen from all over the city at any time of day, though at night the tower is lit up with twinkling lights and makes for magnificent viewing. Don’t just admire the CN Tower from afar; you can take a trip up the tower to experience sweeping views of the city. Take an elevator ride to the top to access the observation deck and you’ll find panoramic views and amazing restaurants with mouth-watering menus. On a clear day you may even be able to see the mist rising off of Niagara Falls. And if you want to test your nerve, stand on the glass floor and look 342 metres straight down… though it’s not for the faint-hearted!
2. Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is visited by millions of tourists each year – and it’s not hard to see why. An easy day trip from Toronto, Niagara Falls is a sight to behold. Whilst there are three sets of falls, the largest section, known as Horseshoe Falls, sees about a million bathtubs of water fall over its crestline every minute. Consider taking Niagara City Cruises to the base of the falls, or Journey Behind the Falls to hear and see the water crash from a different perspective. You may want to journey even further to Niagara-on-the-Lake, a picturesque town set on the shores of Lake Ontario where you’ll find spectacular locally-produced wine.
3. Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada
Containing over 5.7 million litres of water, Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is a fun day out for the whole family. This interactive aquarium immerses guests in a thrilling underwater adventure that showcases more than 16,000 marine animals. It features one of the world’s most extensive jellyfish exhibits, giant lobsters that are over 65 years old and a stingray touch pool. And if that wasn’t enough, there’s daily live dive shows too. Whether you’re walking through the underwater glass tunnel surrounded by some of the most fearsome-looking animals in the aquarium (think Sand Tiger Sharks, Roughtail Stingrays and Green Sawfish) or learning about fish in the Discovery Centre, there’s truly something for everyone at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada.
4. Casa Loma
Casa Loma is a stunning Gothic Revival style house and gardens in midtown Toronto. Originally built as a residence for financier Sir Henry Mill Pellatt in 1911, the house is now a museum and historical landmark. It is the only full size castle in North Toronto and a visit will show you it’s fit for a king: think towers, horse stables, secret passageways and a massive wine cellar that can hold more than 1,500 bottles. Tour the immaculate 5-acre gardens and you’ll find beautiful fountains, sculptures and wildflowers. Kids (and big kids!) will love the 800-foot-long underground tunnel that connects the house to the stables.
5. Toronto Zoo
This sprawling facility, located in Scarborough, is one of the largest zoos in the world and is home to more than 5,000 animals from over 400 species. Make sure you grab a map – with over 6 miles of walking trails, you won’t want to get lost in this jungle. There’s plenty here to keep the kids busy, whether it be on a camel or pony ride, in the 2-acre water play area or learning about the zoo’s wildlife.
